Apply Heat on Your Neck and Relieve the Tension Many of us that suffer from headaches do not necessarily suffer in the same way as others. For example, one of the more common types of headaches are tension headaches and these can come along for any variety of reasons. Many of us have these headaches in the back of our head and they can generally be related to tension that is felt throughout the neck and shoulder areas. One of the best things that you can possibly do in order to alleviate these tension headaches is to apply some heat to the general area. One of the most effective ways for you to do this is to do it in the shower. The unfortunate thing is, many of us do not have the availability of a shower whenever we are in the middle of one of the tension headaches that we experience. Often, we have these headaches at work and the last thing that we are able to do whatever we are working is stop to take a shower. If, however, you happened to experience one of these headaches whenever you have the availability of a shower, standing underneath the hot water and allowing it to run down over your neck and shoulders can really go a long way in helping to relieve the situation. Applying heat in other ways to the area can also help, such as having a warm compress or using a hot water bottle. Although it is not as effective as allowing water to run over the area, it can help to relieve some of the tension that is felt in these muscles. Many times, it is not necessarily the tension in the muscles that cause the headache but it is something that builds on itself and makes the headache worse. By relieving this additional pressure off of the area, we can usually make the headache manageable and perhaps even get rid of it altogether. Regardless of whether you use a shower or a hot water bottle, one of the best things you can possibly do is to take care of the situation as quickly as possible. Tension headaches may start out small and we might actually ignore them for quite some time until we are unable to ignore them any longer. It is during this time that the tension really mounts and our muscles tighten, making it difficult to get rid of the problem when it reaches this point. That is why it is better if you treat it quickly rather than allowing it to go untreated.
